The Benefits of Reading

Happy Monday!

As you all know, Metro Manila is on a Holiday Mode because of the 3 day Papal Visit this January, and here i am some kinda bored in our house, i cannot watch TV because my son loves to watch cartoons so i let him to do so, instead i resort to read my books that i haven't finished because i was a working mom, so the long holiday is a time for me to bond with my family or to rest whenever i want, wayback in my school days, i was fond of reading books and magazines, i'm not a bookworm that spends long hours of reading, but i just love to read whatever articles, magazines or books! so if you're wondering is there a Benefit of Reading? Here are some of the Facts:

 1. Stress Reduction

When i am sad and feeling Blue, i read because it relaxes me, No matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story. A well-written novel can transport you to other realms, while an engaging article will distract you and keep you in the present moment, letting tensions drain away and allowing you to relax.

2. Improves your vocabulary

Reading helps you to learn new words, not just synonyms for words and concepts you already know, but words you may never have even thought of! Articulate people make good first impressions, whether meeting new friends or in a job interview. It may not be fair, but people who express themselves well just seem smarter.

3. Expand Your Knowledge

Reading about a subject that might be foreign to you such as a law drama, an adventure with a physicist as the protagonist, or a military thriller can open you up to all kinds of new ideas. You’re friends will be stunned when you can explain the in-depth details of the latest sensational media trial. You don’t have to tell them you learned it all from a Agatha Christie novel!

4. Mental Stimulation

Studies have shown that staying mentally stimulated canslow the progress of (or possibly even prevent) Alzheimer’s and Dementia, since keeping your brain active and engaged prevents it from losing power. Just like any other muscle in the body, the brain requires exercise to keep it strong and healthy, so the phrase “use it or lose it” is particularly apt when it comes to your mind. Doing puzzles and playing games such as chess have also been found to be helpful with cognitive stimulation.

5. Reading improves empathy
Stories provide life-changing perspective, say York University researchers. Getting wrapped up in the lives of characters strengthens your ability to understand others’ feelings. Seeing the world through the eyes of Jane Eyre, for example, may make it easier for you to relate to your sister-in-law’s viewpoint.

6. Reading can encourage life goals

Reading about someone who overcame obstacles may motivate you to meet your own goals, Ohio State University researchers found. If you’d like a raise, following a character into the boss’s office may give you the courage to make the same request. The more you identify with a character and experience the events as if they were happening to you, the more likely you’ll be to

7. Reading can brighten your day

A happy ending can lift your spirits, but novels may drum up positive feelings in more subtle ways too. Even minor events in the narrative may unearth warm memories. Does the lead character attend a beach barbecue?  You’ll likely reminisce about a sand-and-surf party you attended.

8. Improves memory

Many studies show if you don’t use your memory, you lose it. Crossword puzzles are an example of a word game that staves off Alzheimer’s. Reading, although not a game, helps you stretch your memory muscles in a similar way. Reading requires remembering details, facts and figures and in literature, plot lines, themes and characters.
